Lextar Tops in Patent Application in Taiwan LED Industry

Lextar Electronics Corp. (Lextar) was second to none of its LED industrial peers in Taiwan in terms of patent application volume in Taiwan in 2012, according to the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Lextar currently has nearly 1400 patents* filed in total, up more than 50% on year.

 

Date back to 2012, the company has forwarded 174 patent applications to the Office, of which 125 were related to inventions, ranking first for its outstanding achievements in total application volume and high relation to invention patents. According to the company’s chairman and CEO, Dr. David Su, in 2012 every Lextar’s R&D engineer has over 3 patents filed globally. These applications covered epi wafer, chip, package, and lighting applications as Lextar is the only LED supplier in Taiwan with integrated manufacturing capability. Add to that those applications also covered the widest research fields including thermal, electrical, mechanical and photoelectrical optimization, manufacturing process and control system, noted Dr. Su.

 

Lextar remains competitively positioned in both LED backlights and lighting markets by rapid accumulation of patents. An internal IP management system, regular training programs in IP and innovation and competitive incentive schemes are main measures to boost ideas and innovation. In 2012, Lextar released several new products and new technologies, such as high-CRI and high-efficiency light module, high-voltage chip packaging, 100W COB (chip on board) packaging, packaging of direct-type LED backlight, structural design for LED lighting tubes to fit automated production etc. Furthermore, this company not only benifited greatly by conducting researches and programs with well-known academies, but earned a good reputation for its contributions on talent development while facilitating cross-field communication and cooperation.
